Richmond add Bachar Houli & Brad Miller in the pre season draft.

With no suprise the Tigers selected Bachar Houli with the 3rd pick in the AFL pre-season draft today. Houli who has been out of favour at the Bombers should add some more run to the Tigers mid field.

In the AFL Rookie draft Richmond selected former Demon Brad Miller as a mature-age rookie, Miller was delisted by the Demons after nine years and 133 games. Richmond will he hoping Miller can provide another option up forward so the Tigerts are not so predictable whejn going inside 50.

Richmond also too Ben Jakobi from the Sandringham Dragons with the 11th Pick and Tom Hislop had been given another chance being picked up with the 45th pick.

2011 AFL Season Analysis for Richmond FC Fixture

Well at first glance this is not so good for the Tigers

Here is the Bad
  • First 4 games are against Carlton, St. Kilda, Hawthorn & Collingwood
  • Three interstate trips in four weeks (with a bye)
  • 6 out of a possible 7 interstate trips
But as you read on it gets much better
  • First 9 rounds are at the ‘G’ or Etihad Stadium (& not trip to Geelong)
  • Out of the 6 teams we play twice only two were top 8 sides in (Carlton & Sydney)
  • 2 Friday Night Games, 1 Thursday Night Game (Good for club revenue)
  • Only 7 Sunday Games this season
  • The Run Home is West Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide & North Melbourne (If we are still in the hunt it is a good run home)
All in All I think this is a good result for a tem that finished 15th last season.

“It is a challenging draw from a football perspective, but while our young team is evolving, they will benefit from playing in some big games, particularly early in the season,” said Richmond’s CEO Brendon Gale.

The Tigers will also kick off its 2011 NAB Cup campaign with matches against traditional foes Carlton and Collingwood, in the revamped pre-season competition.

Theses matches will be play at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, February 12, 2011.

Richmond and Essendon cant get a deal done for Bachar Houli by deadline.

Richmond my not have been able to do a deal to bring Bachar Houli over to Tigerland but Craig Cameron sounded very confident the Tigers will pick him up in the Pre-Season draft.

Houli's manager Dan Richardson said on Friday that Houli would not play for Essendon next year.

Richmond is believed to have offered Essendon a draft pick for Houli, but the two clubs were well short of a deal.

Richmond knowing that Houli wanted out of the Bombers were never going to offer too much for the mid feilder thinking they will take him in the draft.

Griggs for Collins deal completed

Richmond has completed its second trade for the week, acquiring Shaun Grigg from Carlton in a direct swap for Andrew Collins.

Tambling deal is official

Richard Tambling will play for Adelaide next season.

A deal to send Tambling to the Crows has just been signed off by both clubs.

Richmond will receive two draft picks from the Crows in return - a late first-round pick the Crows will receive as compensation for losing Nathan Bock to the Gold Coast, and Adelaide's third-round selection.

The compensation selection can be used in this draft or any year up to 2014.

“Gaining a compensation selection will give us great flexibility in the 2010 draft, and in subsequent drafts,” Richmond football manager Craig Cameron said.

Shaun Grigg's manager says the Carlton midfielder is "100 per cent committed" to joining Richmond.

A story on AFL.com.au posted at 12:30pm today claims Shaun Grigg's manager says the Carlton midfielder is "100 per cent committed" to joining Richmond.

To read the story http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/103798/default.aspx

There appears to be no news right now on what Calton would want for the 22 year old midfielder, so we will all need to stay tuned.

Richard Tambling askes to be Traded

It has been confirmed that Richard Tambling has asked to be traded.

Richmond famously took Tambling with the 4th pick of the 2004 draft one spot above Buddy Franklin and the two have forever drawn comparisons.

Well all I can say about this one is "Catch you later" Tambling has been nothing short of a dissapointment for Tiger fans since we drafted him, the only problem is what we could possible trade him for... a pack of Tic Tacs maybe.

Also at this stage the only plays to leave Richmond is Troy Simmonds, Ben Cousins and Graham Polak all of which have retired, there has been no delistings at this early stage.

Thursfield requests a trade from the Tigers

The Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph is reporting Richmond defender Will Thursfield wants to be traded during the AFL trade week which has been pushed back a day to begin next Tuesday.

Thursfield met with coach Damian Hardwick this week and told him he was keen for more opportunities at a rival club.

He played only 14 games to the Tigers this season due to the fact he is no good, if you can't get a game as a defender with the Tigers there is something wrong.

Losing Thursfield will be no loss to Richmond, lets hope we can trade him for something worth while, not that there is much of a chance of that as I said before he is not very good.

AFL Trade Week 2010 starts next Tuesday and runs until the following Monday.

Tigers Win! Tigers Win! WOHO Tigers Win!

It may have taken a painful 10 rounds but Richmond has registered its first win for the season, downing a very ordinary Port Adelaide by 47 points in 1970's style conditions at Football Park in Adelaide.

Not only did Richmond get its first win of the year but the Tigers also kept the Power to their lowest score of all time of just 30 points.

It was from the second quarter when Richmond took control of the game by scoring seven goals to the Powers 1.

Congrats to Damien Hardwick who now has his first win as a senior coach, i for one hope it is the first of many.

Harry Kewell visits Tigerland

Yesterday Australian soccor superstar Harry Kewell went down to visit Tigerland. It is not oftern that Richmond manage to get a guy like Kewell down to the club.

Normally you would see someone like Harry down at the Westpac center with Eddie and the rest of the scum all over them.

According to http://www.richmondfc.com.au/ "The 31-year-old enjoyed a light individual training run at Richmond headquarters, before meeting Tigers’ skipper Chris Newman and being presented with a Richmond jumper."

Good on ya Richmond, I am not sure who managed to organise this but a big thumb up to whom ever pulled it off.

Best of luck to the entire Soccoroos Team in South Africa in June!

Nathan Foley to make his long-awaited return.

Nathan Foley should play his first game of the 2010 season on Sunday night against the Dockers in Perth.

We have not seen Foley since he suffered a severe ankle injury in Round 14 of the 2009 season. Foley was flying at the time averaging a career-high 25.8 disposals per game and we later found out was leading Richmond's best and fairest count at the time.

Richmond has severely lacked that kind of production from the midfield since Foley went down.

Foley who is only 24 will now team up with the other young members of Richmond's midfield Trent Cotchin, Brett Deledio and of course new rookie Dustin Martin.

The Tigers have also named Newman, McGuane, Cousins, Polo and Nahas for this weekend's game remembering this is an extended bench. Out goes Daniel Jackson and Tom Hislop both injured and Post has been left out.

In the AFL Youth with Experience is everything!

Richmond is going into this weekend game against Melbourne with the youngest team of the round at an average age of 22.15 years old and an average game experience of 44 both the lowest in the AFL by a long way.

Let’s take a look at youngest teams for this weekend first:

Richmond 22.15
Carlton 23.30
Essendon 23.58
Melbourne 23.84
North Melbourne 23.88
Hawthorn 23.89

Now we will take a look at game experience for this weekend’s teams:

Richmond 44
Carlton 66
Essendon 67
North Melbourne 68
West Coast 69
Melbourne 71

No surprises here I have names some of the worst teams in the AFL, let’s take a look at Geelong, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs and Collingwood.

Geelong - Age 26.75 & Games 127
St Kilda - Age 26.34 & Games 114
Western Bulldogs - Age 26.30 & Games 118
Collingwood - Age 25.56 & Games 121

Notice any similarities? The perfect age and experience level for an AFL football team appears to be around the 25 to 26 age bracket and with around 110 to 130 games of experience.

Even with the players Richmond is missing this weekend which has skewed the numbers the Tigers are at least 3 years away from hitting the magical mark.

On an interesting side note, Fremantle’s average age is 24.65 and the average games is 84, this and next year I think Freo are for real.

Richmond Forced to make SIX changes for the Melbourne game on Sunday

Now that Richmond has suspended Ben Cousins, Luke McGuane and Dean Polo for one week and Daniel Connors for eight matches, lost captain Chris Newman through injury as well as dropping Relton Roberts (again) there will be a lot of new faces on the park this week.

Youngsters David Astbury, Matt Dea and Troy Taylor will make their debuts, while Mitch Farmer, Robin Nahas, Jake King, Tom Hislop, Andrew Collins and Graham Polak have also been included in the extended squad.

Also Jack Riewoldt will play his 50th match for the Tigers, how time flys when your having fun.

My Tip.... Melbourne by 35

Richmond's Troy Taylor has told a court he will defend charges.

Richmond rookie Troy Taylor has told a court he will defend charges he gate crashed an Alice Springs party and assaulted three men.

Taylor who was told last time he was in court via video link that he would have to appear in person this time, so today he travelled to Alice Spring today to appear in court.

Taylor's lawyer Paul Horbath told the court his client would plead not guilty to all five charges and would return in August for a hearing.

Troy Taylor must reappear in court on August 9th which is the day after Richmond play Melbourne at the MCG.

Taylor is yet to make his debut for the Tigers but many people are saying he is not far away from getting a call up to the starting 22. Richmond I am guessing will make no comment on today’s proceedings as it is an active case.

Four New Tigers to hit the MCG tonight against Calton

One year ago Richmond took to the MCG to play Carlton in the first game of 2009 with much hype. It was all over around 45min later, this season the Tigers could not look much different.

Four new Tigers will run out in the Yellow and Black tonight in Dustin Martin, Mitch Farmer, Ben Nason and Relton Roberts.

All four of these players have had good pre-seasons which have opened up an opportunity in the new look Richmond outfit.

But there is more to it than just the new players, there are more than 10 player changes from the first game of the year last season when Carlton crushed our hopes and dreams a year ago.

It is a brand new year for the Tigers, who know what we will get....

Dont forget to get to the ground early tonight to give Richo the sendoff we did not get to give him last season, I really do believe he will go down as one of the greatest ever Tigers.

Monday, March 22, 2010

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale to be on Footy Classified.

Richmond CEO Brendon Gale will be the first guest of the year on Footy Classified tonight.

Tune into channel 9 tonight at 10:30pm for Footy Classified with Garry Lyon, Caroline Wilson, Craig Hutchinson and that failed St Kilda coach.

I hope that Gale will challenge Caroline Wilson on her article about Ben Cousins in last week's The Age newspaper, Richmond come out strong to denounce Wilson's article it would be good to see him follow that up.

I am guessing the theme of the interview will be along the line of the 3-0-75,000 plan and all the new faces at Tiger Land.

News out of Richmond's 2010 Season Launch

A Number of things have come out of the 2010 season launch today.

New coach Damien Hardwick labelled 2010 the "start of the resurgence" of the Tigers and a year dedicated to "transformation". Hardwick also plans to hand AFL debuts to at least three Tigers in next Thursday night's MCG season-opener against Carlton.

Richmond now have the youngest list in the AFL and I think Hardwick still thinks there is some dead weight on the list that he was unable to cut lose.

Recently-retired Richmond champion Matthew Richardson provided an inspiring 2010 season toast according to the clubs web site.

Here are some highlights of the ‘Richo’ speech thanks to http://www.richmondfc.com.au/:

“To me, wearing the jumper means you get to represent a proud Club, with a very successful last 100 years.

Regardless of what people want to say, and we know the last 30 years haven’t been great, but this Club has won 10 premierships.

We also get to represent our supporters, and there is no more passionate and emotional supporter base than the Richmond members.

When you run out in the jumper you’re not just representing yourself and the Club, you’re representing all those supporters and members that turn up every week, and that’s something I always remembered as a player.

You’re also representing all the greats that have gone before you, and our Club has some of the greatest players in AFL history.

These are all great players who have done great things for our Club, and when you run out there, you’re representing those guys.

But that’s all in the past, which is great, and we have to embrace that, but I feel like it’s time to embrace the new history of our Club.

It’s a fresh start. ‘Newy’ (Chris Newman) has an exciting team under him and a young leadership group.

You’re all starting at the same time, and that’s really important if you want to build a good club.

There would be no better way to start the season than by beating Carlton this week.”

Richo will have his fairwell at the MCG this Thursday at the season opener.

Richmond also inducted four more Club greats into its Hall of Fame.

Ian Wilson, Neil Balme, Mark Lee and Ray Martin joined fellow Richmond greats including Neville Crowe, Kevin Bartlett, Francis Bourke, Jack Dyer, Royce Hart and Dale Weightman.

Cousins readmitted to hospital due to alcohol abuse claims Caroline Wilson

Over the weekend Ben Cousins was readmitted to the Epworth Hospital for further tests after his stomach problems flaired up again.

In The Age newspaper this morning chief AFL writer Caroline Wilson has claimed it is due to a result of binge drinking.

Caroline Wilson also claims that senior Richmond personnel raised the drinking issue with Cousins several times last year. Yet she also said that club president Gary March said he was unaware alcohol had become an issue for Cousins.

Wilson later in the artical said that Cousins former manager Ricky Nixon has told friends in recent weeks that he has been concerned about Cousins' lifestyle and mentioned alcohol abuse.

This story was also reported on SEN in thier news this morning but now SEN have dropped the story after contacting Richmond who have claim that the story is false. SEN confirmed during Kevin Bartlett's show that Richmond has claimed the Caroline Wilson story was false.

Ben Cousins out for the final NAB Challenge game vs Essendon

Thanks to http://www.richmdondfc.com.au/ for this inforamtion

Ben Cousins was discharged from The Epworth Hospital late this afternoon.

He was admitted yesterday after suffering abdominal pain and cramping.

As a precaution tests were carried out during the course of the day.

“Ben was found to be suffering from a slight gastric inflammation,” Richmond General Manager of Football Craig Cameron said.

“He will rest up over the weekend and he will be back at training on Monday,” Cameron said.

Richmond will now take on Essendon in Morwell without Cousins, this also means that Cousins only had one practice match before the start of the season againt Carlton. Not the perfect pre-season but we will wait and see how Ben goes.

Full strengh Richmond side to take on Essendon in Morwell on Saturday

Richmond has named a close to full strength side to take on the Bombers on Saturday at the Morwell Football Ground.

If you feel like heading down to Morwell on Saturday here is the ticketing information for the final NAB Challenge match of 2010

• Adults - $15
• Concession - $10
• Children - $5
• Family - $30

AFL Members and competing Club members can present their 2010 membership at the gate for free admission, subject to capacity.

Brett Deledio, Troy Simmonds, Jack Riewoldt, Trent Cotchin, Chris Newman, Daniel Jackson, Richard Tambling and Ben Cousins have all been named along with 1st round draft pick Dustin Martin.

The only player who we have still not seen during the NAB Challenge this year is Nathan Foley who is still rehabilitating from an ankle injury. At the same time the club did not expect Foley to play during the pre-season, we will have to wait and see if he will be good to go for the season proper.

Jake King will fight striking charge

News just to hand Jake King will fight the striking charge.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/90383/default.aspx

The tribunal will hear the case next Tuesday.

Jake King is facing two-match ban

AFL’s match review panel has charged Jake King with striking Travis Cloke in Fridays match against Collingwood despite the fact no umpire reported him on the day and no video footage clearly showing the incident.

This will all come down to what Travis Cloke tells the investigator what happened, if Cloke keeps the players code of silence I think King will get off but Cloke could tell all and we will see King get rubbed out.

The problem is that Cloke ran off the the upmire to tell on King like a school girl who just had her hair pulled by one of the tough girls. Cloke was interviewed again over the weekend and refused to back down on the allegations.

A source who talked to the Herald Sun last night said of Cloke: "He sang like a bird."

I think what has driven supporters nuts is that King wasn’t reported during Friday’s clash and there was insufficient video footage for the Match Review Panel to lay a report but then newspaper photos on Saturday showed the pair grappling on the ground and King gets reported.

Surely this is not the process we go through, letting a cry baby like Cloke running off to his mummy and daddy to tell on the big bad bully Jake King.

For gods sake Travis you are 18cm taller and 23kg heavier than Jake punch him back you big girl!

Richmond Tigers vs Essendon Bombers in Morwell

Richmond will take on the Bombers in Morwell in the final NAB Challenge game Saturday March 13, the game will start at 3.30pm at Morwell Football Ground.

As far as I can tell ticketing information has not been released at this stage.

One thing I do know is that this is the ground that claimed David Rodan's knee back in the pre-season of 2005.

Under strenght Tigers go down to an under strenght Magpies.

Both Richmond and Collingwood sent out teams that resembled VFL teams.

The Tigers went down by 28 points at Visy park but it could have been much much worse when the Magpies wasted 13 oportunities in frount of goal and only kicked behinds in the third quarter.

Richmdon have one game left in the NAB Challenge series, as soon as I know where it is you will find it here.

Richmond Tigers vs Collingwood Magpies at Visy Park Friday 4:00pm

Richmond has done what Damian Hardwick hinted at after the Geelong game that is to rest many of Richmond's best 22.

The Tigers have left out Chris Newman, Brett Deledio, Jack Riewoldt, Ben Cousins, Trent Cotchin, Richard Tambling, Kelvin Moore and Dustin Martin.

Tigerland's selection committee has instead added many of the draftees and rookie listed players in an attempt to see what Richmond has waiting in its wings.

Richmond vs Collingwood NAB Challenge match details below:

Date: Friday 5 March
Time: 4pm
Venue: Visy Park, Carlton
Cost: Adult $10.00, Concession $5.00

AFL Members and competing Club members can present their 2010 membership at the gate for free admission, subject to capacity.

Brendon Gale's five year master plan for the Tigers is Finals, Members and no Debt

Brendon Gale is planning on waking the sleeping giant that is the Richmond Football Club.

Gale has penned a five year plan which includes the following targets:
  • Playing finals three times
  • Having zero debt
  • 75,000 members
All that in five years I hear you say! I have to agree with you, Gale has set some very high targets for himself and for the club.

Brendon Gale presented the plan to all players, coaches, administration and other staff members on Tuesday night and believes Richmond now has the right people in place to make this plan a reality.

Almost everyone in the football community agrees that Richmond has a massive supporter base which has drifted from the club after 20 years of poor performances on the field and it really is only a matter of on field success that will bring them back to the club.

Richmond had over 37,000 members last year on the back of recruit Ben Cousins and really nothing else, with some finals football and god forbid a premiership I see no reason why Gale and the Tigers can’t hit the membership target.

If the membership target is made the debt will take care of itself. Gale last night declined to comment on the strategic plan, saying he wanted to send the information to members first.

See Tiger fan it is simple win more games, why have we not thought of this before?

Tigers re-sign star Trent Cotchin until the end of 2013

Trent Cotchin has signed a new, three-year extension deal with the Club that will bind him to Tigerland at least until the end of 2013.

Cotchin was taken by the Tigers as the second selection overall in the 2007 National Draft but has been hampered by an Achilles injury throughout his first couple of seasons in the AFL and has only played 25 games.

Most Richmond supporters would say this is money well spent and also protects the Tigers from losing Cotchin to the Gold Coast or Greater Western Sydney who will have the cash to throw around.

On Cotchin's fitness he said
"The conditioning staff has been terrific in managing my program and making sure that I got through the pre-season unscathed,”
and
“I’ve been running pretty well and I’m feeling pretty fit. So, I’m just looking forward to getting the next couple of games under my belt and then, hopefully, hitting Round 1 full of steam with the side and, hopefully, we can have some wins.”

Monday Morning Review of Richard vs Geelong in Yea

"Well there you go" is what I said to my friend after Richmond finished off Geelong to the tune of 51 points.
Yes I am well aware that it was only a practice match in Yea of all places and Geelong had about half of their premiership side out but a win over the reigning premiers is still a win.

I attended the game at Yea so I will give my view on the game.

First I would like to say I have not been a huge fan of Troy Taylor because of the bad press and baggage that he has brought to the club but I now see what the Tigers had seen in him. He looks like a natural footballer with a large skill set, that being said he need to work harder on getting his own ball and his defensive pressure.

The best players in the ground were Richard Tambling, Brett Deledio and Trent Cotchin all working in the mid field. This I can report we were all happy to see, if we can get Ben Cousins more involved, Nathan Foley back from injury and introduce rookie Dustin Martin (pictured below) to the fold it really looks like a midfield for the future.
Up forward Nick Riewoldt was the target most of the time and he kicked 4 goals with support from Mitch Morton who kicked 3 and young Nahas who kicked 2. This looks to be the setup for the 2010 season, not sure how it will shape up without big Richo down there, guess we will have to wait and see.

Hardwick was happy with the turnaround from the first week saying “From where we came from two weeks ago, we needed to show a bit more, and it was really pleasing that the team in general played pretty well.” He went onto say “We’ll take some good things out of the game, move on and look forward to NAB Challenge Three.”

Richmond will now take on Collingwood this Friday in a NAB Challenge match at Visy Park at 4pm.

You can see highlights of the Richmond vs Geelong game from Yea at the below link.

Richmond vs Geelong in Yea

Today's game in Yea will be an interesting test for the new look 2010 Tigers.

Geelong has helped Richmond out by leaving out Joel Corey (knee surgery), Gary Ablett, Mark Blake, Andrew Mackie, Cameron Mooney, Harry Taylor, Joel Selwood and Tom Hawkins.

But they have included Paul Chapman, Matthew Scarlett, Darren Milburn and Brad Ottens, along with ruckman Trent West who will all have their first full hit out for 2010.

Richmond defender Kelvin Moore, who is from Healesville, said he was looking forward to a trip back to the country.

"I'm from out that way so it will be good to go home. I might go back home tomorrow and then head out to Yea," he said.

"I'm looking forward to it. It's a good surface out there and they've put a lot of effort and time into it so all the guys are looking forward to going out there."

Ben Cousins will play his first match of the pre-season, along with Troy Simmonds, Will Thursfield, Daniel Jackson and Luke McGuane.

Draftee Troy Taylor, currently facing court over an alleged assault, has also been included for what would be his first match with the club.

The Might Tigers blogger will also be headed up to Yea to take in the game.

Free agency for the AFL and the Tigers

The AFL has a model of free agency that will be introduced into the AFL competition after the 2012 season.

Here is Richmond CEO Brendon Gale’s response to the AFL’s announcement of a free agency agreement.

"Yesterday, the AFL Commission confirmed that after two and a half years of negotiations between the AFL and AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA), a model of free agency would be introduced into the AFL competition after the 2012 season.

This is a positive and fair outcome for the industry. The agreement strikes a balance between recognising the right of players to have more control over the direction of their football careers, while also recognising the AFL’s legitimate interest in maintaining high levels of competitive balance. Both the AFL and AFLPA should be commended on this win/win deal.

Many would be aware that in my previous role as CEO of the AFL Players’ Association, I was a strong advocate for free agency. When I departed the AFLPA to take over as Richmond’s CEO in September 2009, there already was a meeting of minds between the AFL and AFLPA on the broader principles underpinning free agency. Therefore, it was my understanding that it would only be a matter of months before the arrangements were finally negotiated and settled.

When my move back to Tigerland took place, my thoughts immediately turned to ensuring the Club was well placed to not only deal with the advent of free agency, but to flourish under the system.

Rest assured that in the six months since, we have been busy positioning ourselves to take full advantage of the opportunities that will be provided by free agency. We are confident that we are well on the way to providing a motivating, high-performance, working environment that will ensure we not only retain our key players, but attract players from other league clubs, who will add value to our list.

A high-performance environment is about the character, capacity and conviction of our people. It’s about our culture - and it’s about our facilities, which, when completed, will be the best in the AFL, all things considered.

We have also taken steps to ensure that we maximise, in particular, the opportunities that will be afforded through a more deregulated player labour market, from 2012 onwards. In December 2009, we appointed highly-respected former Port Adelaide National Recruiting Officer, Blair Hartley, as our List and Opposition Analyst. One of Blair’s key areas of responsibility will be detailed analysis of opposition clubs’ lists and identification of free agent prospects.

In summation, this has been a collaborative and fair process involving the AFL, AFLPA and clubs. Importantly, this is a just outcome.

Far from fearing free agency, we, as a club, look forward to capitalising on our opportunities within the new framework.

125 years young, happy birthday to you!

Richmond Football Club celebrates its 125th birthday today. It was at a public meeting on the evening of February 20, 1885, at the Royal Hotel, directly opposite Punt Road Oval, that the Club was formed.

Richmond entered the premier football competition in the State, the Victorian Football Association, that year, but had to wait until the turn of the new century to become a force. In 1908, Richmond was invited to join the stronger Victorian Football League (VFL), which started as a breakaway group from the VFA in 1897.

The Tigers won their first league premiership in 1920 and made it two in-a-row in 1921. That famous “Eat ‘em Alive” spirit was born.

It’s now been 30 years since the last of the Tigers’ 10 league football premierships, Richmond is still a club with a mighty proud, successful history.

And I would like to wish the Tigers a very happy birthday!

Alcohol ban for Troy Taylor

2009 draftee Troy Taylor has been banned from drinking alcohol while aggravated assault charges are pending.

Taylor appeared via video link from Melbourne in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court this morning. He has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault as well as unlawfully damaging property and engaging in violent conduct.

He has been bailed on condition he provide a cash surety and does not drink alcohol.

The matter has been adjourned for six weeks to the 30 March 2010 where Troy Taylor will need to appear in person.

Richmond has stated "As this is an on-going case the Richmond Football Club will not make any further comment until legal proceedings have been resolved."

Ben Cousins avoids conviction for 2009 traffic offence and splits from Ricky Nixon

Ben Cousins has avoided a conviction in court after police and a magistrate agreed to deal with a traffic offence via the court diversion program.

According police Ben Cousins performed an unsafe U-turn from The Esplanade in Brighton in April last year, then it is understood his car hit another vehicle.

The court was told Cousins had written a letter of apology to the victim and he is also to pay an indisclosed amount to an unnamed charity.

The magistrate said Cousins was no different to any other motorist who could injure if not concentrating while driving. He said Cousins had shown no malice during the incident.
In other Ben Cousins news we understand that his manager Ricky Nixon has ended his dealings with Ben Cousins.

The pair have become increasingly frustrated over their business relationship recently and it is understood Nixon ended their relationship two weeks ago. Issues regarding the highly-publicised, but yet to be seen, Cousins' documentary and a separate book deal were part of the fall-out.

Monday Morning Replay

Friday night’s game against the Hawks is certainly one to forget but let’s look at some of the positives to come out of the game.

Dustin Martin was taken with the third pick overall in the 2009 draft and slotted seamlessly into senior football with 26 disposals most of which were effective. He looks like a ready built AFL footballer both in his body build and in his skills with the football in his hands, I think you will see Martin in every games baring injuries in 2010.

Ben Nason cleared of serious injury today when scans showed he escaped with bone bruising to the right knee after he was carried off on a stretcher early in the match.

The Tigers still have Troy Simmonds, Daniel Jackson, Nathan Foley and veteran Ben Cousins to add to the line-up, it is clearly going to take a lot longer to adjust to Hardwick's new game plan and deal with the additional injuries we could have done without.

Richmond now head to the central Victorian town of Yea to play the loser of the Geelong vs North Melbourne match at Yea Recreation Reserve on Saturday the 27th of February at 4:00pm in the NAB Challenge series.

2010 starts just like 2009

Well Well Well...
For those Richmond fans who sat down on Saturday night to watch the Tigers in their first hit out of the 2010 season "we salute you".

It seems the more that changes at Tigerland the more that stays the same, The Tigers trailed by over 100 points before the Hawks took the foot of the pedal and allowed Richmond to kick a few goals in the last quarter.

We figured former Hawthorn assistant and now Richmond head coach Hardwick faced a huge task, both to instill a tougher defensive mindset in his young squad and to eradicate the regular costly skill errors but I am not sure if any of us thought the task would be this huge.

The Tigers are now $3.50 favourites to take out the Wooden Spoon on our own sports book sponsors web site Luxbet.

Here are some other Richmond fun facts:
• To Win the Premiership : $126
• To Win the Minor Premiership : $251
• To Make the Top Eight : $6
• To Make the Grand Final : $46

Last night just to add the cherry on top draftee Ben Nason's right knee buckled underneath him late in the first half, while Adam Thomson was knocked out in a marking contest early in the second.

See you all next week.

Rookie Troy Taylor charged with assault

Richmond's 4th round and 51st pick overall Troy Taylor has been charged with assault.

Richmond's Press Release is below.

"The Richmond Football Club can confirm that Troy Taylor has been charged with assault over an incident in Alice Springs on New Years Eve. He has been summonsed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on February 18.

“We knew Troy had a number of issues he was dealing with when we drafted him,” Richmond CEO Brendon Gale said.

“The Richmond Football Club has a professional network of support helping Troy address his issues but we have also advised Troy that he needs to take personal responsibility for the decisions he makes,” Gale said.

Due to legal reasons there will be no further comment from the club until after Troy has been to court on February 18."

I have a real problem with this statement, Brendon Gale claims that the Tigers were aware of issues (robbing a service station for one) that Taylor was dealing with and this was long before the incident on New Years Eve, why did we take a chance on a guy who puts Richmond into the paper for all the wrong reasons.

Sure offering all the support and training to Taylor is the right thing to do but I would have to think we would be better served putting that time effort and money into other things. You have to ask yourself when will this guy learn his lesson?

The Herald Sun claim Taylor was among a group of teenagers that gate crashed the street party just after midnight. Barry Parkinson said the young men were letting off firecrackers. He claimed when he approached Taylor and asked him to leave the party, Taylor slapped him in the face.

Richmond is going into a new era with new coaching, new players and new leadership off field do we really need this?

Nathan Foley suffers setback

Richmond midfielder Nathan Foley is in doubt for the start of the AFL season because of ongoing ankle problems.

Foley had minor surgery on Wednesday to relieve soreness in the same ankle which prematurely ended his 2009 season, the Tigers said in a statement.

"Nathan had been progressing well with his rehabilitation program, but has experienced some soreness in the last week," Richmond Elite Performance Manager Matthew Hornsby said.

"The medical staff decided the best course of action was for him to have minor surgery.

"The surgery will prevent him from running for the next couple of weeks, and we will continue to take a cautious approach with his recovery."

Richmond open the AFL season on March 25 at the MCG when the Tigers host Carlton and the pre-season cup first-round clash is against Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium on February 13.

This is the sort of news that Richmond fans dont want to hear, membership is already down on this time last year and this kind of news will not help matters.

We need to see Hardwick out front and center selling Richmonds chances of making the eight.... even if we all know deep down it is unlikely.

Foley targets the season opener for 2010

Foley played in all of the Tigers’ first 14 games in 2009, before being forced to sit out the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury.

As he continues his recovery from injury the club is hoping for a round one return.
Richmond’s Elite Performance Manager Matthew Hornsby said “Nathan has been on an individual program since his ankle was operated on late last year,”

As a Richmond fan who is still yet to get the loss to Calton in round one last season, I am not holding my breath that Foley will be ready to go come the start of the season.

We will wait and see.
